HOW TO POST ON PINTEREST FOR TRAFFIC

Learning how to post on Pinterest can be difficult especially when you’re new. It’s no secret that Pinterest is one hell of a complex platform.

When you first come onto the platform, you feel as though it is a search engine but the more you use the platform, the more you realize it also has the properties of a social media platform.

And that can get really confusing when you want to know how to post on Pinterest.

Not only that, but Pinterest also has over 15 methods you can use to post on Pinterest.

That’s why it’s a tricky affair to navigate the platform on your own.

A course like this one can really help you create a tailor-made strategy that will help you creating a posting schedule on Pinterest.

It’s fairly priced, cuts off all the fluff and gives you a step-by-step formula on how to post on Pinterest that you can’t find anywhere on the internet.

That aside.

Now, I know you came here because you want to know about the ways in which you can post on Pinterest to get traffic.

So this post will talk about:

1.   How to post on Pinterest Internally

2.   External ways to post on Pinterest.

3.   Old tricks that you’ll hear on how to post on Pinterest that aren’t true.

Sounds interesting? Let’s jump in.

HOW TO POST ON PINTEREST INTERNALLY

In this section, we’ll talk about the different ways you can be able to post on Pinterest without ever leaving the app (if you’re using the phone) or the platform (if you’re using the laptop).

I’ve included simple tutorials to follow when it comes to posting on Pinterest using different devices in the cases that apply.

I hope this piece can help you understand this giant mass of confusion called Pinterest.

HOW TO POST FROM PINTEREST HOMEFEED

How to Post When you’re using the app.

The Pinterest app is quite different from the laptop.

When you first log into your account, the Pinterest app takes you directly to the home feed and that’s different compared to the laptop. (talk about that in a bit)

From there, you’ll be able to see other people’s pins and in other cases, your own pins.

From the homepage, you can be able to post other people’s pins on your boards (assuming you’ve already created a Pinterest business account)

Remember when you’re posting on Pinterest using the home feed that the keywords of the pin must align to the keywords of the board.

That’s something I talk about in depth in my free PDF about how to increase impressions on a new pin.

And if you’re wondering why you need to post other people’s pins on your board…

Let me give you a little back story of how Pinterest works.

Pinterest was initially made as a place where people could save ideas of projects they wanted. Those ideas were other people’s creations.

And so that concept of posting other people’s pins to your board has still not stopped to this date.

How To Post When Using The Laptop.

When you use the laptop to post on Pinterest through the home feed, you’ll find it a bit difficult.

WHY?

Well, the platform will normally take you to the analytics page.

If you’re new on the platform that can confuse you.

From that page, you’ll have to click on the home page button that’s found on the top, far-left side of the screen.

Also, when you’re posting on Pinterest through the home feed, and you can’t find the type of pins you want, you can always refresh the page.

The algorithm will provide you with a whole new set of pins to choose from.

Cool, right?

HOW TO POST FROM SEARCH ON PINTEREST

When you’re posting on Pinterest using the search feature, it is pretty much the same whether you’re using the phone or the laptop.

All you must do is search for the keywords that you’re looking for and the pins will appear.

For instance, if I was looking for pins on how to post on Pinterest, I’ll just type in my keywords on the search tab at the top of the screen.

Then, the Pinterest algorithm will provide pins with similar keywords to the ones I typed on the search bar.

After that, find the most related pin to your board and post that to your board.

HOW TO POST ON PINTEREST TO OWN BOARD.

First and foremost, what is a board? I realize that I’ve gone on and on about posting on boards, but I haven’t given an explanation.

What Is A Pinterest board?

A board is a place where you save all your related ideas/ pins.

You can name your board and give it a description so that the algorithm understands the type of information that will be saved on the board.

You can also make your board private or public.

And just like the name suggests, private boards cannot be seen by any other person apart from you or the members you invite.

On the flip side, public boards are available to everyone (even people who don’t follow you and vice versa)

Remember, that all your pins dwell first in your boards.

It’s the place pins live, much like how posts on Instagram live in your account… it’s the same concept.

In short, all pins that you will post on Pinterest that belong to you should first be posted to your own boards.

.

HOW TO POST ON PINTEREST WHEN YOU WANT TO DO IT TO GROUP BOARDS.

What are Group Boards?

These are places where a bunch of people come together to collaborate on a board.

Collaboration on a board basically means posting pins on that board.

The group board has an owner who manages it, who is allowed to send invites, remove people from the group and set rules as to how people should use the group.

How do I Join Group Boards on Pinterest?

There are two ways you can join group boards on Pinterest….

Through invitation and through requesting for an invite.

A lot of people will normally request for invites but the acceptance rate is usually low.

So the trick is to write to a lot of emails to group owners requesting for an invite and hope for the best.

Let’s figure out how to post on Pinterest through group boards.

There are multiple ways you can post on group boards but I’ll only advocate for 3 ways. And they are:

1.   From your personal board to a group board.

2.   From the home feed to a group board.

3.   From Analytics.

Speaking of analytics, let’s talk about it.

HOW TO POST PINS ON PINTEREST FROM ANALYTICS

When you get a Pinterest business account, you will get a section that allows you to see the performance of your account. So when you’re posting from your analytics, you’ll mainly focus on two things, pins that are performing well and poor performers.

HOW TO POST A GOOD PERFORMING PIN ON PINTEREST

1.    Go to your analytics tab.

2.    On your right hand side, change the dates to custom and set it to the past 1 week.

3.    You will notice a change in the analytics.

4.    Then scroll down to the very bottom.

5.    From the drop down menu, pick the impressions option/ Click Options.

6.    Click on the top pin.

7.    Pinterest will take you to a different page.

8.    From that page, post that pin to one of your most related boards/ group boards.

HOW TO POST A POOR PERFORMING PIN ON PINTEREST

1.    Follow all the step above from number 1-5.

2.    Click on the least performing pin on that list.

3.    Then post that pin to a group board, not a board that you own.

HOW TO POST ON PINTEREST FROM OTHER PEOPLE’S PROFILES

The more you’re on Pinterest, the more you’ll start resonating with specific creator’s accounts. And probably those accounts will be raking in millions of views.

So all you’ll do is find the profile you’re looking for through search and tap on the created button. That section should take you to the place where all the pins that belong to the account live.

I’d suggest to scroll down quite a bit because the top pins are usually fresh pins.

From secret board

Yes, we already talked about private boards. Well, on Pinterest they are called secret boards. And you can post on these secret boards on Pinterest just as you would on your personal boards.

The reason you’ll want to post on Pinterest through these secret boards is so that you can figure out whether the algorithm understands your pin’s keywords so that it can correctly categorize it.

If course if the algorithm correctly categorizes your pin, it means that the pin can rank on search quickly.

HOW TO POST ON PINTEREST USING THE PINTEREST SCHEDULER

I love the Pinterest scheduler and though it has some limitations, it’s an amazing place to start posting on Pinterest if you still can’t afford a scheduler. The scheduler only allows you to post on Pinterest 14 days in advance. And that’s it. I find that limiting considering I post to multiple boards and I don’t have time to keep coming back to post. It’s just tedious. But for beginners, it’s a tool to treasure when you’re learning how to post on Pinterest.

HOW TO POST ON PINTEREST EXTERNALLY

Of course, you can post on Pinterest if you’re not on the platform hence why I called it external posting.

So let’s look at the different ways you can post on Pinterest externally.

HOW TO POST ON PINTEREST FROM YOUR WEBSITE/ BLOG

Let’s say you have a blog, landing page or website.

All you have to do is attach a Pinterest pin to the page, attach a link to that pin, and simply post that pin to your Pinterest board/ group board.

You can be able to do so if you have social sharing buttons on your blog.

If you don’t have these buttons, you can follow this tutorial on how to add a Pinterest hover button much like the one on the picture below.

It will appear on all the images on your blog.

The only problem with this Pinterest hover button is that it shows up on all pictures, even those you don’t want it to show up on.

HOW TO POST ON PINTEREST FROM OTHER PEOPLE’S WEBSITE

This works very much like posting from your own website.

But when you’re doing this kind of posting, it is geared at strengthening your profile and finding out what type of content your audience truly appreciates.

HOW TO POST ON PINTEREST WITH CANVA

Canva has recently added this new feature of posting on Pinterest directly after you’re done creating your pins.

It’s a pretty neat feature but it also has its problems.

For example, it’s time consuming to schedule pins out to different boards.

The process is so tedious…

And that can really hurt the distribution of your pins on Pinterest.

But that shouldn’t stop you from trying out the feature.

Afterall, it’s one of the best Pin creating tools out there that is super inexpensive.

Plus, it comes with other features such as website and landing page creation.

Here is a step-by-step method showing you how to post on Pinterest with Canva:

1.    Once you’re done creating your pin, look on the top right corner of your screen.

2.    Click on the three dots (…)

3.    There will be a drop-down menu. In that menu, click on see more.

4.    Scroll down until you see the Pinterest icon.

5.    If you haven’t connected your Pinterest account, Canva will prompt you to connect your profile.

6.    Click on connect and give permission for Canva to post on Pinterest on your behalf.

7.    After that, Canva will prompt you to write out your title, description, your preferred board, and the website link associated with that pin.

8.    Click publish or schedule if you want to post on Pinterest at a later date.

If you want to be able to post a design that you recently created on Pinterest through Canva, here’s what to do:

1.    On the home page, click on the content calendar button on the left bar.

2.    Once the calendar pops, click on the (+) button.

3.    Canva will show you a list of the recent designs.

4.    Now choose any of the designs and post it on Pinterest/ schedule it.

HOW TO POST ON PINTEREST USING THE TAILWIND SCHEDULER

The Tailwind scheduler is quite popular.

It’s an amazing platform that helps you post on Pinterest frequently and consistently. I absolutely love this tool.

This post is too long for me to be able to give a full tutorial on how to post on Pinterest with the tailwind scheduler but I can tell you it’s worth every dime.

It will help you to massively grow your Pinterest account with ease.

POSTING ON PINTEREST USING TAILWIND COMMUNITIES

The Tailwind app has a section called the Tailwind community.

And the only way I can describe the Tailwind community is group boards on steroids.

Tailwind communities allow you post your pins on the platform and other people share your pin on their Pinterest account.

It’s pretty cool because your pins end up gaining a ton of repins which is a positive signal to Pinterest.

Plus, you have to share a pin if you share your pin in the Tailwind communities. In short, it ensures that everyone’s pins will be shared.

HOW TO POST ON PINTEREST USING INSTAGRAM

You can easily post on Pinterest using the Instagram app.

Here’s how to go about it.

1.    Open your Instagram app.

2.    Click on the picture you want to share.

3.    On the upper right side of the screen, you’ll see three dots. Click on the dots.

4.    A drop down menu will show up, click on copy link.

5.    Open an Instagram photo downloader website of your choice.

6.    Paste the link.

7.    The website will download your picture or reel.

8.    Use an image resizer.

9.    Then, post it on Pinterest as a pin or an idea pin.

I know that’s a long tutorial but, there’s no short way to post on Pinterest directly from Instagram…

I guess for now Instagram and Pinterest are sworn enemies.

HOW TO POST ON PINTEREST USING YOUTUBE

It’s quite easy to post on Pinterest directly from YouTube.

Simply click on the share sign beneath the video you want to share and look for the Pinterest icon.

The only problem with this method is that Pinterest algorithm pulls the YouTube thumbnail and makes it the picture that will be posted on Pinterest.

That’s a problem because the dimensions of the thumbnail picture are not the ideal size of posts on Pinterest.

Instead, you can use this simple tutorial to create and post on Pinterest from YouTube the right way:

1.    Once you’ve downloaded your YouTube video, change the dimensions of your video.

2.    Change it to have an aspect ration of 2:3 or

3.    If you’re using Premiere pro, then it will be super easy for you to make this change in dimensions.

4.    Once you’re done, pick the most interesting part of your video and download that part only.

5.    Finally, post it on Pinterest using the Pinterest scheduler as a video pin.
